Colonie Police: Man attempted to lure children into car

LATHAM, N.Y. - The Colonie Police Department is investigating an incident in which police say two young children were asked to get into a vehicle by a suspicious man.

Police say the incident happened around 1 p.m. Monday on Laura Drive, the Forts Ferry area, in Latham.

The two young children, an 8-year-old boy and 5-year-old girl, were in front of their home when a vehicle pulled up and a male driver asked the children to get into his car.

The children immediately ran in the house and told their mother who called police.

An email was sent out to parents of children in the North Colonie Central School District notifying them of the incident.

The vehicle is described as a white Toyota Camry, newer model, 4-door, unknown New York State white license plate, the Camry symbol and name on the rear of the vehicle is gold in color.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 40's, round face, black beard and mustache, wearing what appeared to be a top hat and black framed glasses with orange lenses.

Responding officers did not locate the vehicle, but a witness told police that a vehicle matching the description was heading west on Troy-Schenectady Road.

Anyone with information about this crime or the identity of the suspect is urged to contact the Colonie Police Department at 783-2744.
