NORTH ADAMS, MA - The first annual 'Up Front for Demar' run/walk in honor of fallen soldier Michael R. Demarsico, took place on Sunday morning in North Adams.
The race began at 8:00 a.m., as participants gathered near the North Adams Police Department.
On August 16th, 2012, 20-year-old Michael DeMarsico was killed by an IED while serving in Afghanistan.
"He did what he wanted to do. He did it with every bit of pride and honor for his country," said Barbara Cahoon, DMarsico's great-grandmother, in August.
DeMarsico's family said he enlisted shortly after graduating from Drury High School, pursuing a lifelong dream of serving his country.
The 'Up Front for Demar' run concluded in the Veterans Memorial Park in North Adams, where participants of the run, tired and proud, gave their respects.
The North Adams community came together on Sunday morning, to honor DeMarsico and to raise money for the scholarship fund in his name.
