KINGSBURY, N.Y. - Multiple Washington County fire departments assisted in a community donation drive for Hurricane Sandy victims, the efforts of which led to Saturday's bountiful departure south.
On Saturday, in the early afternoon, firefighters of the Fort Edward and Kingsbury Fire Departments deployed to Long Island with the collection of donations.
They plan to distribute and provide aid to those still being adversely affected by the storm's after-effects.
Donated items were loaded into trucks, including a vehicle borrowed from the Middle Falls Fire Department around noon, and then the group started their trek to Long Island.
Non-perishable foods, blankets, cleaning supplies, child and pet supplies were among the transported donations.
"We had so much support this past week," said Michelle Brunelle, secretary of Kingsbury Hose Company. "The community was just unbelievable."
