Watervliet volunteers bring donations to Sandy victims

Posted:

WATERVLIET, N.Y. - A group of volunteers from St. Peter Armenian Church in Watervliet left in the early morning hours Wednesday to bring items of need to New Jersey.

Fr. Stepanos Doudoukjian, Parish Priest of St. Peter Armenian Church, is originally from New Jersey and still has family there. In an effort to help those communities that were a big part of his childhood, he coordinated the donation drop-off site at St. Peter Armenian Church.

The group says donations have been pouring in for Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey. Items such as bottled water, non-perishable food items, winter coats, warm clothing, blankets, flashlights, batteries, cleaning supplies and diapers are all needed by storm victims.

Volunteers gathered Tuesday evening to make 800 sandwiches which they will bring to the Tom's River Shelter on Wednesday. The group left at 4 a.m.
