Latham, N.Y.- As the gasoline shortage in NYC continues following the aftermath of Sandy the Army National Guard is performed a crucial and challenging task at its base in Latham on Sunday that will help bring some relief to the city.
The Army National Guard loaded two refueling trucks onto a C-17 cargo plane. The empty tanks will be flown to Floyd Bennet Field in NYC. On Monday morning the tanks will be filled and used to gas up emergency vehicles and other vehicles including school buses. This is expected to give some relief as the emergency vehicles will now have a separate place to fill up at, leaving more gas for residents at commercial gas stations.
The National Guard will be sending two more refueling trucks to NYC from the Latham base on Monday.
