DELANSON, N.Y. - The Duanesburg Volunteer Ambulance Corps readily swapped uniforms for aprons, when they heard that the Delanson Fire Department had to postpone their community breakfast on Sunday morning.
Several of the Delanson fire-fighters have deployed to areas in need throughout New York City to provide assistance to hurricane victims, and the fire department found themselves understaffed for their scheduled community breakfast.
The Delanson fire-fighters hold the breakfasts as part of a regular series during the non-summer months.
The pancakes, sausage, eggs, juices and coffee are purchased, cooked and served by the firemen, and the breakfast raises money for the fire company, simultaneously fostering community engagement over warm, freshly-cooked food.
Many fire-fighters from various fire departments, as well as town residents and travelers, regularly attend the breakfasts.
Duanesburg Ambulance Corps volunteers took eagerly to the suggestion that they staff the community breakfast as a way of supporting both the fire department and the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
"DVAC is honored and privileged to work with outstanding fire-fighters in all of our departments," said DVAC President, Peter Brodie. "Helping one of them with their fundraiser at this time of short staffing is just second nature."
