ALBANY, N.Y. - Five hundred educators, corporate leaders and students from across the country gathered Saturday for the 16th annual College for Every Student National Conference, strategizing guidance of low-income students toward college.
Bill Russell, five-time NBA Most Valuable Player, 12-time All-Star who brought the Boston Celtics eleven championships out of his thirteen seasons with them, voted 'Greatest Player in the History of the NBA' in 1980, and named the 20th Century's Greatest Team Player by Sports Illustrated, was one of the featured speakers for the conference.
Russell was happy to have participated, and proudly acknowledged his personal history of encouraging students toward higher education.
The second featured speaker was Joshua Johnson, a tap dancer and former CFES Scholar from Wadleigh Secondary School in Harlem, who has been featured on the Ellen Degeneres Show, has danced for Diane Sawyer and recently took center-stage on 'Dancing With The Stars.'
