Joshua Mcwain
GREENFIELD, N.Y. - Authorities have arrested and charged Joshua Mcwain, 27, in connection with the murder of his mother, Carol Stanford. Mcwain now faces second degree murder. In his mugshot, Mcwain appears cold and expressionless.
Authorities said it happened Saturday afternoon during a fight in the home they shared, 370 Daniels Road. They said Mcwain turned violent; hitting Stanford multiple times in the head with a blunt object. Her body discovered days later under a shed in the yard. Myron Woodbeck who lives just a few homes down tells News 10 the two appeared close.
"They were always together, always walking around the park. You would never think anything was wrong in that category," Woodbeck said.
Neighbors said the pair lived there for several years. Stanford though stood out as social and kind.
"She was very friendly, she would come by, come by. They would work around the park a lot and say hi to us," Cindy Merrill, a neighbor said.
Other neighbors said McWain was different and had seen him display his temper.
"Every once in awhile, we'd see him throw a little tantrum, throwing things and things like that. But this is beyond that," Randy Major, a neighbor said.
Mcwain remains in Saratoga County jail without bail. The Sheriffs Office called it an active investigation.
