Sheriff's Office to check up on sex offenders Halloween night

RENSSELEAR COUNTY -  Rensselaer County Sheriff Jack Mahar is insuring residents in Rensselaer County that his Deputies will be making extra random visits to sex offenders in the county Wednesday night who were convicted of sex crimes against children to ensure they are not answering their doors on Halloween.

Level 3 sex offenders are to report to the Sheriff's Office every 90 days to update their photos, addresses, and the vehicle they are driving and to discuss their internet use among other issues. Level 2 offenders must report to the Sheriff's Office once a year and provide the same information.

Every six months, officers go directly to their homes and apartments to verify they are living where they claim they are.  In addition, the list of offenders is checked daily, and if someone is one day late reporting, an officer will go pick him up and charge him with a felony violation.
