SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The mayor of Schenectady has declared a state of emergency for the City of Schenectady, which becomes effective at 12:00 noon on Monday, October 29th and continues through 12:00 noon on Wednesday, October 31st.

The state of emergency is a result of impending threats toward health and safety, as posed by Hurricane Sandy.

Schenectady residents have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, to use common sense and caution when outside and to exercise extreme care around trees and power lines.
