COHOES, N.Y. - Governor Andrew Cuomo made a stop in Cohoes Sunday to give an update on the state's preparedness plan.
In anticipation of Sandy, water levels are being lowered 12-16 feet below normal in the Mohawk River. T
The director of state operations Howard Glaser explained, "The purpose of lowering to levels is to create more space."
Governor Cuomo added, "Unfortunately we have too much experience at this."
Summer Austin's memory of Irene is enough to keep her at home for the next few days. "I am scared," she said. "So I am staying inside."
In order to prevent flooding in areas that were flooded by Irene, the Canal Corporation, NY power Authority, and the Department of Conservation raised the upper gate on the eight movable dams along the Mohawk river.
The state has also deployed 1100 members of the National Guard in preparation for the storm.
