Stabbing in Schenectady results in emergency surgery

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - Early Sunday morning, 23-year-old Richard Sankar was stabbed in the torso outside of 627 Brandywine Ave. in Schenectady.

The Schenectady Police Department has arrested 26-year-old Krishnan Appan in connection with the stabbing.

Appan has been accused of stabbing Sankar in the torso after they attended a party.

Sankar was treated on the scene by members of the Schenectady Fire Department and was transported to Albany Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery and is now listed in stable condition.

Appan is currently being held in the city lockup pending his arraignment Monday morning by the sitting magistrate.
