ALBANY, N.Y. - The Albany Airport conducted an aircraft emergency drill Saturday morning, to assess the combined response of emergency personnel to a significant aircraft disaster.
Volunteers from the Shaker Road- Loudonville Fire Department Explorer Post, the Albany International Airport Post, and the Bruderhof Community acted as victims of the simulated disaster.
Participating volunteers were "made up" to appear to be actual victims with broken limbs, cuts and other life-threatening injuries.
The airport is required to conduct periodic drills to help ensure the readiness of staff and equipment in the event of a real aircraft emergency.
The drill took place Saturday from 9:00 a.m. through 12:00 p.m., at the intersection of Metro Park and Aviation Road in Colonie.
The responders in the simulated drill included the Albany County Airport Authority, the Town of Colonie fire departments, EMS personnel and area law enforcement agencies.
