Local soccer coach fired over racial posting on Facebook

Posted:

BRUNSWICK, N.Y. - Brunswick Central Schools Superintendent Louis McIntosh tells NEWS10 that Tamarac's varsity soccer coach Charlie Meacham has been fired after making racially charged comments about an opposing team on his personal facebook page.

NEWS10 was first to bring the post to the attention of the Superintendent after receiving an email from an upset viewer.

Just prior to Friday's game against Ichabod Crane, the Tamarac High School varsity coach had posted on his Facebook page a list of five ways he could distract the "opposing players of Mexican descent" on the field. Some examples he stated were "throwing tacos onto the field" or "asking about their immigration status."

McIntosh tells NEWS10 he and the team hope they will be allowed to apologize for their former coach's actions to the Ichabod Crane players before Friday afternoon's game.
