Poll: Most NYers want Democrat-controlled Senate

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A poll shows most New Yorkers want a Democratic majority in the state Senate now controlled by Republicans.

The Siena College poll shows 55 percent of New Yorkers voters want a Democratic majority. Democrats hold a nearly 2-to-1 voter enrollment advantage.

But the majority will be decided in 63 races where Republicans say they are on track to expand their 33-29 majority.

The poll also finds Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo's longstanding popularity is slipping. The poll gives Cuomo a 67 percent favorability, which is down from 71 percent in August. Cuomo also has a 58 percent job approval rating, which is statistically unchanged from 60 percent in August.

Siena's poll questioned 750 likely voters from Monday to Wednesday. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
