ALBANY, N.Y. - Price Chopper Supermarkets announced Thursday the donation of more than 11,000 pounds of turkey for the 2012 Equinox Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner.

"Their generosity will make a huge difference for us as we work to feed more than 9,500 of our Capital Region neighbors this year," said Dorothy Cucinelli, Equinox CEO. This is the single largest donation of food Equinox has ever received.

The annual Equinox Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner is one of the largest and longest-running holiday traditions in New York State.

Each year, the dinner provides a holiday meal to more than 9,500 lonely, homebound or homeless Capital Region neighbors.

Price Chopper and Equinox also announced the expansion of Project Soup, an innovative program started last year that provides post-holiday meals to those in need by turning into soup stock the meat and bones left over from the dinner.

Price Chopper will donate gift cards and recipes to the participating kitchens to help them obtain the other ingredients needed to make filling soups and stews for coming months.  Equinox and Price Chopper volunteers will distribute the turkey bones and gift cards to area institutions dedicated to feeding those in need.

The leftover turkey and soup bones will be packaged with the Price Chopper gift cards and delivered throughout the region the week after Thanksgiving.
