NY comptroller cites problems at SUNY foundation

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says he's found conflicts of interest, overpayments and misuse of credit cards at the State University of New York Research Foundation.

DiNapoli says the SUNY Research Foundation has taken advantage of lax oversight to cheat taxpayers and skirt the law as well as violate its policies. He calls for far greater oversight and accountability of the agency that handles millions of dollars in public money.

He says one employee charged $130,000 to the agency credit card for travel to Asia and for Buffalo Sabres hockey tickets.

The arm of SUNY supports campuses and research and has often helped fund highly paid researchers to keep them at the state university.

There was no immediate comment from the foundation.
