TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer County Legislature joined local officals,
family, friends and veterans on Saturday for the unveiling of the 'Brigadier
General James J. Kenney Memorial Highway' on State Route 7.
Legislation to rename the State Route was introduced by Vice Chairman of the
Legislature Stan Brownell and Legislator Lester Goodermote, and was approved by
state lawmakers earlier this year.
Kenney served the nation's military for over forty years, beginning in the
World War II-Era and continuing through the Cold War until his retirement in
1987. He also served with the New York Army National Guard, and then worked for
the New York Division of Military and Naval Affairs, eventually ending his
service with the Army Reserves.
He also worked for the State Department of Environmental Conservation, and while
working for the state, Kenney was a special game coordinator who took
particular pride in patrolling the area around the Tomhannock Reservoir.
The ceremony took place in the morning at the Tomhannock Reservoir fishing
area parking lot, next to Lakeshore Drive.
