ALBANY, N.Y. - Hundreds of Catholics from central and eastern New York are headed to Rome for this weekend's canonization of two women with upstate roots.
More than 200 parishioners in the Diocese of Syracuse started their journey to Italy Tuesday, while about the same number of people from the Diocese of Albany boarded buses taking them to New York City-area airports to catch flights to Rome.
They'll be in Vatican Square on Sunday for the event that will make saints of Kateri Tekawitha and Mother Marianne Cope.
