Former Schenectady laundry site contaminated

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The place where a former Schenectady company conducted its business has now been labeled a super-fund site.

New York State's Environmental Conservation Department is taking over the cleanup of the old Mid-Town Laundry on State Street.

Environmental officials say the ground water in that area is contaminated with the organic compound tetrachloroethene, and it is beyond acceptable levels.

State officials still have to determine the extent of that contamination.
