SCHAGHTICOKE, N.Y. - A large barn caught fire on Hemstreet Road in Schaghticoke Sunday afternoon.
The fire started around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday at a large barn located at 36 Hemstreet Road. The fire was ongoing with a heavy smoke condition in the area for a large portion of the afternoon.
Hoosic Valley Fire Fighters responded to the blaze in the large barn which caused hay surrounding the barn to catch aflame as well. Officials reported 400 bales of hay caught on fire. Firemen on scene say they
pulled each burning bale out one by one, to hose them down and see if
they are salvageable.
No injuries were reported and no animals have been reported as injured.
Hoosic Valley fire fighters attempted to salvage what they could from the barn. One antique car was destroyed in the fire.
The owner of the barn is a volunteer fire fighter for Hoosic Valley.
