GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. – A viral video has come to light in the Capital Region, and it's so disturbing that YouTube and Facebook moderators took it down right after it was posted.
The video depicts a girl beating a woman, and although NEWS10 censored the audio because of the vulgar language, viewers can see why the clip has angered so many people.
NEWS10 spoke with Gloversville Mayor Dayton King, who was inundated with questions about the video on his Facebook page. He told us the Gloversville Police are investigating but the victim, a 40-year-old woman, did not want to press charges.
He also said the victim may have been harassing these girls for a little while, and what is seen in the video was the girls taking it into their own hands - but that's something no one condones.
The school district has been notified and is working with the students and their families.
But viewers told us on Facebook that what is also disturbing is the fact that someone stood there and recorded it on their cellphone, and then posted it proudly on Facebook and YouTube.
The mayor said about Gloversville, "Look this isn't the norm. Our city is full of awesome people and when you see something like this it is not a good representation of our city."
NEWS10 will continue to follow this story.
