GREENWICH, N.Y. - An 18-year-old has been arrested for a spree of car thefts and for stabbing two cats in the Village of Greenwich last week, police say.
Police in Greenwich say Joseph Amash admitted to stealing from at least 30 parked cars last week in the village; taking items such as hunting knives, loose change, beer, and an iPhone.
The reported thefts happened during the afternoon and evening of Thursday, Oct. 4th around Corliss Avenue, Washington Street, Elbow Street and John Street.
Police say Amash told them he also stabbed two cats with a knife that same night. He allegedly said the cats were following him, so he scalped one when he stabbed its head. The scalped cat was not located, but the other one was located and is alive.
Cambridge-Greenwich Police arrested Amash on Friday and charged him with Burglary 3rd-degree, a felony. Animal cruelty and petit larceny charges are pending as the investigation continues. He has been remanded to the Washington County Jail in lieu of bail.
