COLONIE, N.Y. - The Colonie Police Department is currently investigating numerous incidents of passing counterfeit $20 and $100 bills.
Police say over the past three weeks, there have been eight reported incidents of passing the fake U.S. $20 bills and four incidents of passing fake $100 bills.
According to police, the counterfeit $20 bills are complete
counterfeits that have been illegally printed with repeating serial numbers, where as the $100 bills are real $5 bills that have been bleached and
reprinted over with $100 information.
The counterfeit $20's have been passed at Dunkin Donuts at Loudon Road, Price Chopper on Loudon Road, Burger King on Loudon Road, Wendy's on Loudon Road, Target at Northway Mall, Five Below and Party City in Latham Farms. The total amount of counterfeit bills spent in these locations is $540, police say.
The counterfeit $100 bills were passed at Burger King on Central Avenue, Walgreens on Central Avenue, Stewarts on Sand Creek Road, and CVS on Sand Creek Road. Total spent in fake cash at these locations is around $500.
The passing of the counterfeit $20's and the
passing of the counterfeit $100's do not appear to be related.
The suspects in the passing of the counterfeit
$20's are described as: tall, black male, baseball cap, black jacket, dark shirt
and pants. And white female, long dark hair, and black blouse. They are driving a red four door sedan with a
sunroof.
The suspects in the passing of the counterfeit
$100's are described as: black male, blue jean jacket and long sideburns and a
black female, heavy set, hair in a bun, black sweater and blue jeans.
This investigation is being aided by the
United States Secret Service.
