NEW YORK (AP) - The Columbus Day Parade kicks off on Fifth Avenue on Monday.

Parades, floats, bands and more than 100 groups will participate.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other officials also will join in the celebration.

The parade steps off at 11:30 a.m. at Fifth Avenue and 44th Street and runs north to 72nd Street.

The parade is organized by the Columbus Citizens Foundation.

The foundation says the parade includes about 35,000 participants and about 1 million spectators.

It says it's the largest celebration of Italian-American culture in the world.

A Columbus Day Parade Mass is held at St. Patrick's Cathedral prior to the parade.
