BEACON, N.Y. (AP) - Congressional candidate Sean Patrick Maloney says the $925,000 his campaign raised for the quarter just ended is one of the top totals among Democratic challengers.
Maloney is challenging freshman Republican Rep. Nan Hayworth for New York's new 18th Congressional District in the Hudson Valley. Hayworth is a top target for Democrats and the race has drawn national attention.
A Siena College poll last month showed Hayworth leading Maloney by 13 percentage points.
Maloney announced his fund raising total Monday, a week before the Oct. 15 federal filing deadline. Hayworth's total has not been released.
Maloney, a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, says he has more than $825,000 cash on hand.
