Tour or fly in WWII aircraft this weekend at the Empire State Aerosciences Museum

Posted: Updated:

GLENVILLE – The Empire State Aerosciences Museum is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity this weekend – flights and tours on historic WWII planes.

Three historic aircraft are on display at the museum, located at the Schenectady County Airport in Glenville, as part of the Collings Foundation's "Wings of Freedom Tour."

The aircraft are:

  • Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress "Nine O Nine" WWII Heavy Bomber
  • Consolidated B-24 Liberator "Witchcraft" WWII Heavy Bomber
  • P-51 Mustang WWII fighter

Anyone can climb in and explore the planes up close, just $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. But it's the high-flying that will cost you a pretty penny – 30 minutes on the B-17 or B-24 will run you $425 per person, while the P-51 is $2,200 for a half hour and $3,200 for a full one.

The experience is a rare opportunity – the B-17 is only one of seven still in flying condition in the U.S. and the both the P-24J and Full Dual Control P-51C Mustang are the only remaining examples of their type in the flying world.

The tour will be open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.
