WHITEHALL - Those that live along Montcalm Avenue in Whitehall say a pit bull is terrorizing their neighborhood. They told News 10 the pit bull at 17 1/2 Montcalm frequently gets out of its cage; and has allegedly killed at least one cat and injured one woman.
Mary Gebo said that pit bull killed her beloved cat, Scrappy. She adopted Scrappy 11 years ago when her husband died and said that pet was all she had. Gebo said she called police after it happened, but was told they couldn't do anything, unless a human was injured.
Gebo said just hours later, that dog attacked another dog and its owner was injured. Both Gebo and that other owner have now taken the owner of that pit bull, Melissa Smith to court.
Police confirmed that there have been two incidents involving that dog, but said it would be up to a judge to decide its fate.
Smith has more than a dozen pit bulls, many of them puppies. Authorities said it was legal and that only a dog over six months required a license - the dog at the center of the dispute is licensed.
Gebo is hoping that a judge will rule in her favor and euthanize the animal. She said she worries that it will begin attacking people and avoids that home at all costs.
