Convicted rapist caught after release in lab probe

Posted:

BOSTON (AP) - A convicted rapist and career criminal released on bail because drugs in his case were tested by a state chemist accused of mishandling evidence has been apprehended after he failed to show up for court.

Marcus Pixley's bail was reduced earlier this month after his lawyer argued that evidence in his case was tested by chemist Annie Dookhan. Dookhan is charged with obstruction of justice for skirting protocols and faking drug test results at a state lab.

Pixley failed to show up for court Wednesday.

Quincy police apprehended him Friday. He is scheduled to appear in Suffolk Superior Court in Boston Friday afternoon.

Prosecutors will ask that his bail be increased. Pixley is awaiting trial on 2011 drug charges. He has a criminal record dating to 1977, including eight drug convictions and a rape conviction.
