
SCHENECTADY – Schenectady City School District Board of Education Member Gary Farkas announced Thursday that he is resigning from the school board effective immediately.
Farkas has served on the Board of Education since 2008. His term expires in 2014.
The Board of Education has three options regarding the vacated seat which include:
• Leaving the seat vacant until the next Annual District Meeting, in May 2013, at which time it will be filled by election for the remainder of the term (through 2014).
• Holding a special election within 90 days for the purpose of filling the seat for the remainder of the term (through 2014).
• Appointing a qualified resident to fill the seat until the next Annual District Meeting, in May 2013, at which time it will be filled by election for the remainder of the term (through 2014).
Board members will discuss options regarding the vacant seat at the next Board of Education meeting which is set for October 17.
