13 sought in Rensselaer Co. Public Assistance Fraud Sweep

TROY, N.Y. - A press conference held by Rensselaer County Executive Kathy Jimino on Thursday announced the results of a Public Assistance Fraud Sweep that was conducted earlier in the day.

According to the county, 13 residents are being sought for their crimes in defrauding public assistance programs of nearly $150,000.

Officials revealed the identities of the 10 residents already arrested for fraud during the press conference.

-- Sara Edson, 31, residing at 1437 Johnsonville Rd., is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd, Welfare Fraud 3rd, and Offering a False Instrument for Filing eight counts, receiving a total of $38,914 in benefits she was not entitled to.

-- Jeff Beattie, 46, residing at 1437 Johnsonville Rd, is charged with Offering a False Instrument for Filing two counts, for assisting Sara Edson to receive a total of $38,914 in benefits she was not entitled to.

-- Glenn Forman, 51, residing at 1567 2nd St. Rensselaer, is charged with Grand Larceny, Offering a False Instrument for Filing, and Welfare Fraud for receiving a total of $6,825 in benefits he was not entitled to.

-- Patricia G. Gillettt, 61, residing at 28 Northern Dr., is charged with Grand Larceny and Welfare Fraud for receiving a total of $11,875 in benefits she was not entitled to.

-- Leon Johnson, 29, and Danielle Johnson, 33, both residing at 349 9th St. Troy. Leon is charged with Welfare Fraud and Grand Larceny; Danielle with Grand Larceny and Welfare Fraud for receiving a total of $2,047 in benefits they were not entitled to.

-- Scott Sawyer,39, residing at 24 Lindeman Way, Poestenskill is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd, Welfare Fraud 3rd, Offering a false Instrument for Filing five counts for receiving a total of $43,241 in benefits he was not entitled to.

-- Arthur Threatt, 67, residing at 8 Judson St. Albany, NY, is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd, Offering a false Instrument for Filing 3rd, and two counts for receiving a total of $1,997 in benefits he was not entitled to.

-- Harold Williams, 64, and Dorothy Williams, 61, both residing at 3251 6th Ave., Troy. Harold is charged with Grand Larceny 3rd, Welfare Fraud 3rd, Offering a False Instrument for Filing two counts. Dorothy is charged with Grand larceny 3rd, Welfare Fraud 3rd, Offering a False Instrument for Filing two counts, for receiving a total of $11,565 in benefits they were not entitled to.

Earlier Thursday, the Department of Justice also released the results of their own Medicare Fraud Strike Force operations in seven cities across the U.S, which led to charges against 91 individuals – including doctors, nurses and other licensed medical professionals – for their alleged participation in Medicare fraud schemes involving approximately $429.2 million in false billing.
