Verbal argument turns to stabbing in Amsterdam


AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - The Amsterdam Police Department is investigating a stabbing which occurred early Thursday morning on Wesleyan Avenue.

Police say the stabbing happened around 4:15 a.m. near the intersection of Wesleyan Ave. and Chapel Place in Amsterdam. They say the victim was a passenger in a vehicle, with three others, when a verbal argument broke out between the victim and one other passenger.

The argument escalated and turned to outside the vehicle where the fight turned physical. The victim then returned to the car where he told the other passenger that he had been stabbed.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital to be treated for multiple stab wounds then transported to Albany Medical Center where he is currently undergoing emergency surgery for his wounds.

Amsterdam police are currently collecting evidence and attempting to locate the suspect who remains at large.
