
SHAFTSBURY, VT - On September 29th at approximately 10:25 p.m., State Troopers from the Shaftsbury Barracks responded to a reported single vehicle crash on Bouplon Hollow Road in Shaftsbury, Vermont.
Upon arrival, it was determined that a Washington County N.Y. Sheriff's Deputy was on patrol in Eagle Bridge, N.Y., when he was nearly struck head-on and driven off the road by the vehicle involved in this crash.
The Deputy pursued the vehicle to the Vermont line at which time he discontinued the pursuit, and just followed at a distance with no lights or siren.
The vehicle involved failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection of Mead Road and West Mountain Road in Shaftsbury.
The vehicle was traveling at such a high rate of speed that it went airborne through the intersection and landed on Bouplon Hollow Road.
As the vehicle continued traveling north on Bouplon Hollow Road, the operator lost control and drove off the east side of the road.
The vehicle came to rest in a drainage ditch.
The operator, identified as Michael Brillon of Eagle Bridge, N.Y., immediately exited the vehicle and charged at the Sheriff's Deputy.
A brief struggle ensued which resulted in Brillon being sprayed with OC spray before being detained.
Brillon was not injured as a result of the crash.
Within minutes, Sgt. Brian Turner and Tpr. Lewis Hatch arrived on scene and took Brillon into custody for DUI.
Brillon was charged with Criminal Refusal on a 2nd offense of DUI, Gross Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Driving with a Criminally Suspended License and Criminal Possession of Alcohol.
Brillon was held on $1,000 bail and lodged at the Marble Valley Correctional Center in Rutland, VT.
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Bennington Superior Court on October 1st. Brillon also faces several criminal charges in NY along with numerous traffic tickets.
Bennington County VT Sheriff's Deputies assisted at the scene with investigation of the crash.
