Prescription drug take-back initiative launched throughout Capital Region
CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. - Many Police Departments participated in the 'National Take-Back of Prescription Drugs' day that took place on September 29th.
The 'National Take-Back Day' focused on removing potentially dangerous controlled substances from medicine cabinets.
Residents of many counties had the opportunity to surrender expired, unwanted or unused pharmaceutical controlled substances and over-the-counter medication to law enforcement officers for destruction.
Certain restrictions applied. Intra-venous solutions, injectibles and syringes were not accepted, due to potential hazard by blood-borne pathogens.
Hazardous waste such as mercury thermometers were also not accepted.
Illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamines were also not part of the initiative, and were not accepted.

Warren County Sheriff's Office, at 1400 State Street Route 9, next to the Warren County Municipal Center in Queensbury
Whitehall Police Department
Saratoga Springs Police Department at the Police Benevolent Range at 52 Weibel Avenue
Clifton Park, at the NYS Police Public Safety building at 5 Municipal Plaza off of Route 146
Mechanicville, at the CVS parking lot located at 12 South Central Avenue
The Duanesburg Town Hall
Greenport, at the Public Safety Facility located at 85 Industrial Tract off of Route 66
Ballston Spa Police Department, at 30 Bath Street
Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department at West Sand Lake Fire House
East Greenbush Police Department at 225 Columbia Turnpike in Rensselaer
Hoosick Falls Police Department at 29 Main Street in Hoosick Falls
Schodack Police Department at 1797 Columbia Turnpike in Castleton
Troy Police Department at 55 State Street in Troy
Saratoga Springs Police Department at PBA Hall at 52 Weibel Avenue in Saratoga Springs
Saratoga Spring Police Department at 5 Lake Avenue in Saratoga Springs
Colonie Police Department in the main Courtroom of the Public Safety Center located at 312 Wolf Road in Latham
