NY court refuses to overturn trooper's firing

Posted:

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A New York appeals court has refused to overturn the firing of a state trooper who was kicked off the force for inappropriate behavior with female motorists he pulled over along an upstate stretch of the Thruway.

The Daily Gazette of Schenectady reports that the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Jeffrey Salatel's firing last year was supported by evidence gathered by a state police disciplinary hearing board.

The board found he used "the tactics of a predator" when he pulled over four women on Interstate 90 in the Mohawk Valley between May 2008 and November 2009. The women testified at a state police disciplinary hearing that Salatel either sexually harassed them or made inappropriate comments, including repeatedly asking one of the drivers to show him her breasts.
