SOUTH CAIRO, N.Y. - Thursday morning a 54-year-old man was killed after his car crashed into a tree due to a medical episode while driving.
State Police say around 10:10 a.m. Richard Stickles of South Cairo in Greene County, was driving northbound on County 31 in Greenport, when it is believed he suffered a medical event that caused him to drive his mini-van into a field and
subsequently into a resident's front-yard tree. The mini-van bounced off of the tree and came to rest in the yard.
The home-owner came outside and observed the driver unresponsive at the scene
of the accident and immediately called 911.
Upon arrival, police administered CPR to Stickles. He was then taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
