ALBANY, N.Y. -- Governor Andrew Cuomo has sent Senator Roy McDonald a letter. pledging to fully endorse him if he continues his bid for re-election.

McDonald mathematically lost a primary race to challenger Kathy Marchione. Marchione, currently the Saratoga County Clerk, declared victory Tuesday afternoon.
The longtime incumbent from Saratoga has yet to concede.
In the letter, Cuomo theorizes McDonald's decision to cross party lines last year, and vote to legalize same sex marriage in New York last year as a major factor in his defeat.
Because of this, Cuomo states in the letter that he intends to fully endorse McDonald for November should he continue campaigning
While McDonald has yet to comment, members of his campaign said last week that he would run on the Independence party line if he could not secure the Republican nomination.
