BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Vermont Veterans Home passed an inspection of federal compliance standards on Wednesday, saving funding from being taken away.
Melissa Jackson, the Director of the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington, tells NEWS10 they passed their inspection with the Division of Licensing and Protection Wednesday morning and will not lose their Medicaid or Medicare funding.
The home for veterans and their spouses faced the possibility of closing this week after a federal agency cited the state-run home for several violations
including unsanitary conditions, mistreatment, and an alleged assault of
a resident.
If the inspection failed, 130 residents and 250 employees would have been displaced. $12 million in Medicare and Medicaid funding was also at stake.
The Vermont Veterans Home Board of Trustees is scheduled to meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday to develop a clearer picture of the home's future.
