ALBANY, N.Y. - Police in Albany tell NEWS10 a University at Albany student was shot during an altercation that occurred off-campus early Wednesday morning.
Police say the shooting happened on the corner of Hudson Avenue and Ontario Street in the Pine Hills neighborhood of the city around 3:40 a.m.
Police say at least three shots were fired, injuring the victim, 21-year-old Joseph Sheehin, in the leg.
The student, who has not been identified, was then transported to Albany Medical Center with not life-threatening injuries for treatment and has since been released.
The gunman is reported to have taken off on foot running north on Hudson Avenue.
UAlbany's Chief of Police Frank Wiley sent out a campus-wide email Wednesday morning saying the university is working with Albany police to determine the particular circumstances surrounding this incident.
