CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. - One of the candidates in the Republican primary for the 43rd Senate District says the race is over. Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione declared victory Tuesday over two-term incumbent Senator Roy McDonald.
Marchione declared her unofficial victory at her campaign headquarters in Clifton Park Tuesday by stating three simple words: "We did it."
The race was too-close-to-call primary night, and came down to absentee
ballot counts over the span of the 43rd Senate District in Saratoga,
Washington, Rensselaer and Columbia Counties.
Absentee ballot counts finished up Monday with Marchione ahead by 109 votes.
The official vote count has yet to be released, but Marchione says her hard-fought victory has been worth the fight. Marchione supporters applauded after nearly every sentence during her press conference; sentiments and support being the reason she can declare victory for the republican nomination, she says.
Senator McDonald's campaign has not returned any calls to NEWS10, though he has released a statement saying "The McDonald campaign is considering all available options at this
time. Senator McDonald is very proud of his career along with the
accomplishments he's achieved during his time in office and he is
honored to participate in the democratic process. We plan to have a
decision about the campaign's future by the end of this week or the
beginning of next week."
