ALBANY, N.Y. - Hundreds gathered Sunday evening to ensure nearly one-hundred New York Army National Guard soldiers received the homecoming they deserved.
The soldiers, part of the 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry Regiment had been serving in Afghanistan since January. These brave men and women were deployed as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The soldiers arrived into the Eclipse Aviation Hangar at Albany International Airport Sunday around 8:30 p.m.
Family and friends had gathered early with signs and cameras ready for the homecoming.
Ella Lyons, 5, grabbed right onto her father's leg and wouldn't let go. "Because I love him," Ella said.
Her father, Guardsman Cullen Lyons said it was the moment he had been waiting for almost a year for. "I'm so excited but it hard to put into words," Guardsman Lyons said.
