MALTA, N.Y. - Saratoga Hospital and Albany Medical Center marked a construction milestone Thursday during a "topping off" ceremony to celebrate placement of the final beam at Malta Med Emergent Care.
A joint venture of the two hospitals, the $17.5 million facility will be the only such center in the Capital Region staffed 24-hours-a-day by emergency medicine physicians.
Malta Med Emergent Care will give residents nearby an alternative to hospital emergency rooms for all but the most serious medical circumstances. Expected to open in spring 2013, the new building is located on a 140-acre site owned by Saratoga Hospital off of Northway Exit 12.
Malta Med Emergent Care will occupy the first floor of a two-story, 60,000-square foot building. The second floor will house medical offices for primary care and specialty physicians to help patients access follow-up care when needed.
Emergency physicians from Albany Med joined Saratoga Hospital's urgent care team at Malta Medical Arts in July 2011. Services currently provided at that Route 9 facility will be expanded and relocated to the new, larger Malta Med Emergent Care.
