ALBANY, N.Y. - Albany police say an 86-year-old resident died Monday after his car crashed into a tree while he was experiencing a medical episode.
Police say they were called to the scene of a one-car accident on New Scotland Avenue at Hackett
Boulevard around 12:30 p.m. Monday after receiving a call for a car into a
tree.
When the officers arrived they found 86-year-old George Chrysogelos, of Albany,
unconscious at the wheel of his GMC van. He was treated at the scene and
transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was later pronounced
dead.
A friend of the victim, 86-year-old Bessie Anastas of
Albany, was in the front passenger seat at the time of the accident. She is
currently being treated at Albany Medical Center Hospital for non-life
threatening injuries.
An autopsy conducted Tuesday confirmed that Chrysogelos
had a medical episode prior to the accident that caused him to leave the road
and crash.
Investigators confirmed that he died as a result of blunt force
trauma.
