GLOVERSVILLE, N.Y. - A Fulton County man has been sentenced to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison after being charged with manslaughter in connection to the motor vehicle crash that killed one and left another wheelchair-bound.
19-year-old Justin VanNostrand, of Gloversville, was charged with Manslaughter 2nd, a felony, and other charges in March for causing the death of 19-year-old Christopher "CJ" Insogna and paralyzing his sister 17-year-old Kelsey Insogna following the December 2011 crash.
Fulton County officials say VanNostrand was driving his Mustang in excess of
100 miles an hour, when he lost control of the vehicle and smashed into a house at the intersection of State Highway 29 and Steele Avenue Extension in Johnstown.
During the emotional courtroom proceedings Monday, CJ and Kelsey's family members
read victim impact statements, describing how life has changed for them since
CJ was killed and Kelsey lost the use of her legs. CJ's mother, Kristine
Pinkerton, fought back tears as she described how she found out about her son's
death.
Just before sentencing Monday, VanNostrand read a brief statement in court, expressing
his grief over the loss of his best friend. In a hushed voice, he ended his
statement with "I'm sorry."
VanNostrand was also ordered to pay Kelsey's medical expenses during sentencing on Monday.
