SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Schenectady County Sheriff's Office is holding a gun buy-back program on Sunday, offering gift cards to those that turn in weapons.
The event is set to occur this Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Mr. Marc's Barber Shop located at 975 Albany Street in the City of Schenectady from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
This initiative will offer families a chance to benefit from the safe removal and destruction of unwanted or illegal weapons throughout the County. Officials will be offering gift cards to individuals turning in guns at the following rates:
The program is being offered on a monthly basis at different locations throughout Schenectady County.
The program is supported by Schenectady County Sheriff's Department's Asset Forfeiture Fund along with the Schenectady County DA's Office, Schenectady Police Department, Golub/Price Chopper, Stewarts Shops and various organizations throughout the County including several faith based organizations.
Collectively, the program has accumulated 24 handguns, 27 rifles/shotguns, and five non-working guns.
