Arrest made in Albany homicide investigation

ALBANY, N.Y. - Albany Police Department spokesperson Steve Smith tells NEWS10 an arrest has been made in after a deadly shooting Thursday night on the corner of Ontario Street and Elk Street.

Police say they have arrested 23-year-old Bernard White, of 522 Clinton Avenue, following a homicide investigation by detectives on Friday.

Calls came in for the shooting around 9:41 p.m. at 104 Ontario Street where the victim, 35-year-old Alex Dunvan of Second Street, was found with a gunshot wound. He was immediately taken to Albany Medical Center where he succumbed from his injuries Friday morning.

Officers were still active on the scene investigating for several hours after the incident collecting evidence and talking to anyone in the area who may have witnesses the shooting. Detectives then went back to the scene Friday morning in daylight hours hoping to find out more.

White is charged with Murder 2nd-degree and Robbery 1st-degree for the death of Duncan. He has been remanded to the Albany County Jail.

A second suspect relative to the investigation, 35-year-old Antwan Uptegrow, of 108 Bradford Street, was arrested and held on a New York State Parole warrant. He is also being held at the Albany County Jail.

Police are unsure of a motive behind the shooting.

This is the City of Albany's second homicide this year.
