TROY, N.Y. - Troy Police Captain John Cooney
tells NEWS10 that his department received a call from a concerned citizen
regarding the presence of handguns, secreted in a building within the North Central
neighborhood on Wednesday.
The property
owner was contacted and police say the guns, which were high-caliber and loaded,
were removed by officers.
Cooney is
crediting mutual trust between the caller and police, which helped in this
case.
Cooney says the
three weapons will be forensically examined and that detectives are now
looking into possible connections with other shootings this year including a drive-by
shooting that killed 17-year-old Phillip
McMillan who was killed on 9th Street in Troy this past March.
Due to what police call the
sensitive nature of this case, Cooney would not divulge the make or model or
calibre of the guns or the address where they were
found.
