ROUND LAKE, N.Y. - Animal handlers safely corralled a pig that found its way to a Northway off-ramp, walking along side Exit 11 for a good part of the morning on Thursday.
Calls first came in for the unexpected visitor around 8 a.m. for sightings of the pig which State Police estimate weighs approximately 650 pounds.
According to State Police in Saratoga, the pig belongs to a farm on Sweet
Road in the Town of Ballston. The pig was being watched at a local farm until it was picked up by the owner, Kevin Mrozek.
The so-called "Northway Pig" traveled a few miles from its home on the farm to near Exit 11. State Police public information officer Trooper Mark Ceipel told NEWS10 that the pig was also spotted in a nearby Hannaford parking lot earlier in the morning.
Animal control representatives from both Malta and Milton came down to help rope the pig and safely load it into a trailer about two hours after it was first spotted.
While the animal's presence created a lot of attention and gawkers, State Police say there were no traffic issues.
The pig was not hurt and never made it onto the Northway.
