- Several car thefts along State Route 30 in the town of Amsterdam have led to the arrest of an
alleged suspect, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office reports.
Sheriff's deputies say they received calls on a male breaking into cars and
stealing items. As they investigated the thefts, they were able to locate
24-year-old Jeffrey Opalka Jr., of Fort

Deputies found several of the stolen items on Opalka, and additional items
that were stolen a few days earlier were also located in the residence.
Opalka was arrestede and transported to Montgomery County Sheriff's Office
where he then attempted to escape by forcibly grabbing and attempting to take
the deputy's service weapon from its holster. The deputy then had to physically
struggle with Opalka in order to take him back under control, and prevent him
from taking his weapon.
Opalka is charged with two counts of Grand Larceny 4th, three counts of
criminal possession of stolen property 4th, two counts of petit larceny,
Attempted Robbery 3rd, Obstruction of governmental administration 2nd,
