State Senate candidates bash each other on TV and in person

TROY, N.Y. - The candidates in the 43rd Senate District race picked up Tuesday night right where their campaign commercials left off, bashing each other.

"Roy you should be ashamed of yourself to say I swindled tax payers or set my own pay is a down right lie," said Saratoga County Clerk Kathy Marchione.

"Enough is enough, it's not the way to be treating people, I took all I was going to take and I'm not going to take anymore," said State Senator Roy McDonald.

Those were the reactions from each candidate during Tuesday's debate regarding some of the negative campaign ads circulating both on TV and in the mail. However, during the debate the negativity only continued.

Marchione questioned the motives behind McDonald voting in favor of gay marriage.

"He promised the conservative party in 2010 he was voting no, then like minded people like Mayor Bloomberg who he met just before you voted give you $10,300 for your campaign fund," said Marchione.

"I promised no one anything, I told them I was thinking about the issue, my door is open to everybody, and I'm proud to stand up to hatred and bigotry," said McDonald.

McDonald later accused Marchione of double dipping.

"Double dipping is when you are taking a pension and a salary at the same time, it's a bad precedent, it should be outlawed and that's what my opponent was doing," said McDonald.

"In December or January when I start as the Senator I will either give my paycheck or my retirement back, we haven't discussed the figures yet, there is no double dipping," said Marchione.
